The Creepshow

03.07.10
Burt’s Tiki Lounge
with The Atom Age Vampyres

I arrived at the dark dank spot on State Street known as Burt’s Tiki Lounge early to make sure I got a good spot that offered a choice line of sight of the so-called stage. I snagged myself a chair (my body and that of an 80 year old man are one in the same) then proceeded to check out the merch booth behind me.  The normal crowd of gutter punks were perched at the bar nursing their hang over from the weekend. Unlike the carefree kids at the bar I had to be to work the next morning so I had only had water to wet my whistle.

Having an ultra, mega, schoolyard crush on the current Creepshow lead singer Sara “Sin” Blackwood (little sister of the original lead Jen “Hell Cat” Blackwood), I couldn’t wait to see her hit that stage. This was to be the second time The Creepshow graced the salty city with their presence,  the fist show being in support of their first album Sell Your Soul in ’07, also at Burt’s, witch I happened to do some street team stuff for. I ended up not making it down in time to see the set so this time around I wasn’t going to let anything get in the way of seeing these cats live.

The opening band The Atom Age Vampyres sounded like a throwback Misfits tribute band on heroin. Their front man was a skinny, tank-topped guy with full on white face and they had a mean female drummer that looked like she could kick some ass. The stage presence of The Atom Age Vampyres was about as dead as the songs about the undead they were playing, and the crowd’s reaction led me to believe that they were as unimpressed as I was. Nothing really to write home about except for their vintage horror punk sound and a cover of The Misfits’ “I Turned into a Martian” they played near the end of the set. The only claps and cheers from the crowd came when they stop playing.  Firm C+ in my book—turn up those vocals guys.

The Creepshow started to set up and the sound check began. With my standards set high for the looming set I couldn’t wait for the first song to start. The band all seemed ready and willing to impress Salt Lake. The tiny Miss Sin was walking from the merch booth to the stage and back and I was contemplating whether I should put her in my pocket now or wait tell they played. Instead I fanboyed out and had the whole band sign my freshly purchased LP of Run For Your Life (out now on Hellcat Records).  The set opened up just like the record with an old timey radio broadcast intro to “Rue Morgue Radio.” Despite Burt’s poor track record with sound quality, The Creepshow broke through like a Mac Truck. It’s a rarity for a band to sound almost the same live as they do on the album.

First off, the reference to narcotics drug use to the opening band is just plain innappropriate when you dont even know who they are at all. I have sat in on a few of The Atom Age Vampyres band practices have seem great results and good energy. From what i saw at this show was what seemed like in my opinion was that there was personal tensions going on during the performance. As a frequent observer of the band, I feel that the drummer didnt really care about her performance as much as she cared about her appearance(a corset while drumming is going full retard (quote from tropic thunder)) It also seemed like the bass player looked nervous and lost during his performance but attempted to hold his presence) It seemed that the frontman was nervous about his rhythm section falling apart like the empire of Rome(which eventually was true that night)Ive known the frontman for a while now and ive never seen any performances fall apart. From what ive been told, there is a new lineup coming featuring some impressive muscians with actual musical backgrounds. background

I love how the fact the guy That sat in on The band practices said they had good energy.. blah blah blah and then at the end threw in that the drummer messed it all up,Just because she was in a corset,That really didnt have anything to do with it at all, because Ive seen her perform in her other band "Domiana" many times, while wearing a corset and had no problem Whatsoever, the Singer had no rythm, which messed the rest of the band up. A far as having no musical background the supposed shitty Drummer and basist are in Aforementioned band Domiana,As far as Atom age vampyres went They had only been together three months and had about 15 Songs,To learn all in that in a short amount of time is Impressive if you ask me. -HA!

First and foremost, Domiana is a horrible excuse for a band and the fact that they were even mentioned as a band just goes to show your lack of musical knowledge. Here is the shitty, talentless band at their best: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HWP9D64J3GQ 3 months to learn 15 songs of horror punk doesn't take that much talent to pull off. The drummer on 2 accounts stopped playing the drums in the middle of the song that night, and from the looks of it, it sounded like she started out the songs at a higher tempo than she was used to, and couldnt compensate for it. As an experienced drummer for 10 years now, i can very well say that she is still not live ready and has a case of stage fright. and id bet that "oh the nerve" is either the Dementia Cadaver herself, or one of her biased friends. I have great hopes for the new lineup of this band and hope to see them play in Salt Lake City more often and look forward to an album

I love how i have watched this page and watched former bands mates, of my band sit their and write horrible things about me. Get in between me and my divorce and defame me by saying outrageous thing and claims. Do yourselves a favor. grow up. I will give you some advice. If You want to get anywhere in this industry You need to work as professionals. Not bad mouthing other people. Focus on your music and not on starting drama. The key is success, not drama. And to clarify, those 15 songs, where only out of 38 songs written. When you sign on to be a member of a dismembered already established band, be prepared to learn large amounts of pre-written material. Its horror-punk. how hard could it be to learn it, if you are already an established musician, in an already "established band" Good for domiana. i don't care. they are not in the AAV's genre and there for cannot be used as a comparison the our band. Also the guy who sat in on the practices was one of the members, i was not the individual who wrote that. it is sad that the band split into a war. i never wanted that or for a childish feud. Let this all come to an end, because i am sick of and annoyed with these former's childish games. PEACE! The Fuckin AAV's

Dude from what I remember from some years back, you're the one who makes outrageous claims and cause drama. From meeting you quite a few times and word from others you're an obnoxious ass who puts people down and fucks people over.
