After two long days of suspension due to crappy weather, the 3rd annual Northface Masters kicked off on a beautiful morning on Monday, January 25.  If you’ve never heard of it, the North Face Masters is one of the first big-mountain snowboarding competition tours meant to help bring back what some riders feel is the root of snowboarding, riding deep pow and hucking yourself off cliffs.  The Masters fills a huge competition gap in snowboarding, with less than a handful of other big-mountain competitions in the United States today.   
 
 

Over the last month Utah was been the hot spot for events especially those of the snow persuasion. Not only did we have the Winter Dew Tour rolling through for the first time ever, we also held the final Grand Prix of Snowboarding contest to determine who would be heading to Vancouver to respect Team America (fuck yeah!), played host to the X-Dance film festival for it’s 10th anniversary and also received about 8 ft. of snow in a week making for some last minute photo shoots and epic riding conditions in an otherwise lack luster early season. Fortunately (and unfortunately) I was there to observe it all for you!

What the hell is an Ultra Lounge? Why would someone wait in line for 2 hours in the freezing cold for the chance to party with Pauly Shore? Honestly I don’t know, yet there I was again, carrying another 20 pounds of prominently branded crackers, jackets, lotions, sunglasses, headphones, body spray, water bottles, flash drives and chapstick.

I’ll be honest here—I wasn’t expecting much from the Student Slam. With only 24 hours to write, produce and perform a play, I didn’t have very high hopes for the results. I was shortly proven wrong.

On Thursday, Jan., 14th The Jib Yard got the Winter Dew Tour started with a bang at their opening party.  For one night the Jib Yard transformed the indoor terrain park into something that resembled a warehouse party.  Grant Avenue was closed down and if it hadn’t been for the misty weather the night may have taken on more of a block party atmosphere. When I arrived around 10 p.m. the place was jammed, but the bar tenders kept the service fairly speedy despite the size of the crowd.

If you happened to be at Brighton Resort on January 9, you probably came across the aptly named Put That In Your Pipe and Jib It competition at the top of the Majestic lift.

For years the Visa Freestyle International has been coming to Deer Valley, Utah to showcase the world’s best skiers in front of thousands of eager and inebriated spectators.  This year was no exception.

Some of California’s truest and most dialed hip hop OGs came to SLC in early December as part of the “How the Grouch Stole Christmas” tour. Kicking off the tour right here in Salt Lake, The Grouch came with Mistah Fab, Fashawn and Exile to start off the string of B and E’s and the holiday sprit.
