urFRENZ
Slamdance Film Festival
Directed by Jeff Phillips
This film lives somewhere between Lifetime movie and genuine, earnest film. The story involves a social networking site, urFrenz, and the lives ruined by seemingly good intentions. The characters are solid, if a bit overdramatic (what else can be expected from a movie based on teenagers, though?). Not many films have been made from this premise, that of networking sites distressing characters, and it is done well here. Not to give too much away, but this film has an ending that is surprising and appropriate. The teenage actors in this film do a stellar job, and the script has realistic touchstones for today's culture. Ultimately, this movie shows that kids can be cruel but it takes a middle-aged bitch to really bring pain.
