The Last Lovecraft: Relic of Cthulhu

Slamdance Film Festival

Director: Henry Saine

Director Henry Saine’s film explores the reality of a world crawling with monsters of H.P.Lovecraft’s design—with some pretty competent creature effects and animation assisting. Kyle Davis, perhaps better known as “The Retarded Person” in It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia’s season three episode “Sweet Dee is Dating a Retarded Person”, plays the lead role.  Davis does a brilliant job here at being the gifted heir of Lovecraft, the famous horror/sci-fi/fantasy novelist. The film also co-stars Devin McGinn, the screenwriter of the project. McGinn and the production need to pay great thanks to Lovecraft (as they did in the Q&A) for his public domain works, but also to the crew and actors for their timing and time—both apparent and timely during this resurgence of interest in Lovecraft’s mythos.
