The Infinite Man
SXSW Festival
Director: Hugh Sullivan
Über-nerd and scientific inventor, Dean (Josh McConville), attempts to reignite the flame in his relationship with his girlfriend, Lana (Hannah Marshall), by vacationing at the same resort they visited the year before. However, when they arrive to an abandoned locale and are unexpectedly surprised at the arrival of Lana’s ex-boyfriend, Terry (Alex Dimitriades), the attempt to fix their relationship fails, to say the least. Fast-forward a year and Dean proposes a time-traveling experiment to Lana to go back to that failed attempt and change it for the better. The best part? It works! Doc Brown would have a shit fit with the amount of tampering these two do with the space-time continuum. Not only do they change the course of history, they get mixed up with the past versions of themselves. Director Hugh Sullivan leads this awkward yet charming tale of jealousy and redemption with a delightful cast of characters. McConville is provided with the entertaining opportunity to portray a love-starved mess to a conniving mastermind as his versions compete against one another. The creative and unique approach to time travel will certainly gain the appreciation from fans of the genre. It certainly did for this kid whose only tattoo is of the flux capacitor.
