Still from Bindlestiffs

Slamdance Film Festival
Director: Andrew Edison

A riotous and irreverent tale of three high school virgins and their quest to “fuck shit up,” Bindlestiffs is like Ferris Bueller’s Day Off and Superbad on crack—literally. Suspended from school for graffiti after The Catcher in the Rye is banned, Andrew, Luke and John check into an inner-city motel, determined to experience the world, Holden Caulfield style. What follows is a week of debauchery as the boys go looking for love, good times and poon. After getting drunk with a homeless woman and porking her at a bus stop, banging a prostitute in the shower, and sucking dick for crack, the trio decides that they belong back in the suburbs. So they throw the homeless woman in the back of their El Camino and head back home, unaware that the school security guard— having mistaken their graffiti penis for a gun—is armed and waiting to thwart an imaginary terrorist attack. With hysterically funny dialogue and fast pacing, I barely had time to breathe between fits of laughter as Edison pushes himself and his cast over the line of decency again and again. Taking home the Audience Award for Best Narrative Feature, Bindlestiffs was by far the funniest film in Slamdance, and is a movie I would never, ever want my mother to watch. I can’t wait to see what Edison and gang are going to do next—fresh out of high school and already kicking ass with their first feature, these guys are going to be big.

5 of 5 stars.
