SLUG's SUMMER OF DEATH SKATE SERIES The Summer of Death Skate Series was first birthed as a meager competition in 2000 at the now-defunct, Connection Skatepark. Since then, SOD has kept our staff busy over the last eight years— judging, photographing, filming, designing special courses, and building new ideas. In previous incarnations of SOD, SLUG has built many skate wonders including: a temporary mini ramp inside a dance club for a “one night of invite-only” skating, sent amateur winners to compete in the Tampa AM (including Mike Plumb) and shipped-off groms to attend Woodward Skate Camp. We have helped cultivate the talent of locals in the skateboard community including Holland Reed, Tyson Bowerbank, Oliver Buchannan, Lil' Brandon, Jared Smith, Mike Plumb and many other Utah favorites. In 2006 SLUG perfected SOD’s contest format by lifting dates away from public skateparks and condensing SOD's schedule from five contests per season to just two stellar dates. SLUG whipped up a Critical-Mass-style float for the 2008 SLC Gay Pride Parade, replete with snazzy t-shirts and plenty of pizazz. The video's soundtrack is by Salt Lake's own Mafu and appears on SLUG's Death by Salt IV compilation. |

SLUG Mag's 3rd annual Junk Show was held Saturday,
February 10th! Taking Place at the Fabulous Brighton Mountain Resort, this contest was about taking the trash to the hill (literally) and letting Utah's best amateur snow shredders show what they had on our garbage! Don't worry, we recycled! |

SLUG Mag's Lumberjack took place Saturday March 17th. We made boring trees fun again by letting Utah's best amateur snow rippers get busy on the original jib. Brighton Mountain resort was and is the place. |
