High Ends = Super Furry Animals + Blonde Redhead – Concrete Blonde

Vancouver indie rock band Yukon Blonde frontman Jeffrey Innes’ side project pushes his musical impulse from geeky rock more into the realm of electronic percussion, keyboards and a laid back groove. It’s even slightly reggae or dub-influenced, in contrast to the antsy energy of the Canuck-centrically named parent unit. Singles “Downtown” and “The Weight” are stylish, smart soundtracks to any odd evening that might even be bound for hipster advertisement-dom. Although the disc closes with the hard driving “Working Man’s Blues,” the tone is indelibly set with “I’m Gonna Keep On Dancing.” –Stakerized!
