Howardian = Half Japanese + Japanther – Sonic Youth

The Howardian Hills are a verdant, rolling region in Yorkshire, England, but the band Howardian is a considerably more jolting experience. A side project of Ian Vanek of Japanther, which is in a sense the quintessential art school band—which formed when Vanek met Matt Reilly at Pratt Institute, and later performed at the Whitney Biennial and the Venice Biennale fer cryin’ out loud, putting on performance art projects with their noise-y New York sound. Vanek’s solo project Howardian is both more melodic and in its own way more aggressive, but both are art-punk that’s a lot of fun! –Stakerized!
