Our Wild America = Of Monsters And Men + Mumford & Sons / Deer Tick

Our Wild America blends elements of alternative country and indie folk to create an endearing sound. This truly is a sad rock album, but the guitar playing and raspy singing keep it from becoming overtly emo, although it treads the territory closely. Heartbreak is palpable in the vocals, but the steel pedal guitar adds a little grit to let you know the one you’ve hurt is tough enough to rise from the ashes. If you feel like driving through the country and shedding a few tears, then you should welcome this album with open arms. I prefer a more upbeat sound myself, but there’s no doubt that Our Wild America was made with conviction. –Justin Gallegos
