Squadra Omega = Föllakzoid x (contemporary Swans – Godflesh)

Kraut abounds in Squadra Omega’s Altri Occhi ci Guardano, and it’s a trip worth taking. Opener “Il Buio Dentro” pairs bleeps and bloops with cleanly executed psych guitar lines for a mesmerizing effect. That track blends seamlessly into “Sospesi nell’Oblio” to grow ebullient appendages for the album. The ambient “La Nube di Oort” punctuates the groove with tepid noises and percussion strikes to create a Dexter’s Laboratory–at-night feel. In “Il Labirinto,” a sax noodles and weaves in the soundscape with dreamy results; though the dream is of the queer and mutational sort with rooms that grow from the halls that this track’s bass lines traverse. To boot, the gorgeous, gold double-vinyl lends this release an ephemeral quality—a treasure fit for impromptu rituals. Altri Occhi Ci Guardano elicits strange dances from theTwin Peaks Bob in all of us. –Honk Carnie
