Uke Hunt = Israel Kamakawiwo’ole + Elvis Presley – The Four Seasons

Spike Slawson from Me First and the Gimme Gimmes does not have a subtle presentation with his vocal talents and that definitely continues on this record. Though this album is indeed a softer album than prior projects, it still swings and swaggers with the confidence of a lounge singer that knows he’s got his audience by the balls. Sometimes it works and sometimes it drowns these quiet little songs in the coconut rum that inspired them. “Needles and Pins” and “Fascination” are wonderful songs, but “Enjoy the Silence” is last song EVER that needed to be covered (again, again, and again). Slawson is passionate about these songs and you can tell that in their selection and organization. The album plays well from beginning to end and it’s nice to have something you can play when the kiddos are in the car. I look forward to more from these guys. –Benjamin Tilton
