Synopsis: With its elegance, wit, and theatricality, this program highlights some of Adam Sklute’s favorite works. Jirí Kylián’s highly athletic and profoundly emotional Return to a Strange Land deals with love and loss, set to the evocative piano music of Leoš Janácek. In 1958, modern dance pioneer Merce Cunningham created his unique Summerspace in collaboration with composer Morton Feldman and artist Robert Rauschenberg. Ballet West becomes one of a very few companies in the world to produce this fascinating exploration into movement, music, and art. The program closes with British choreographer David Bintley’s brilliant The Shakespeare Suite. At times intense, at times hilariously funny, the ballet is a series of pop-culture vignettes of different Shakespeare plays accompanied by the jazz strains of Duke Ellington.

What is “Warm Ups”?
Warm Ups is a fun and informative pre-curtain discussion with members of our artistic staff where participants get the inside scoop on the performance and the chance to ask any ballet questions they might have. Warm Ups is free to all ticket holders and will add to your enjoyment and understanding of the performance. Warm Ups are held one hour before each production (except for The Nutcracker and Innovations) and is given by a member of the Artistic Staff. Warm Ups lasts about 30 minutes.

Run time: approximately 2 hours with 20 minute intermission (subject to change)

Recommended for ages 8 and up. No babes in arms. All patrons must have a ticket regardless of age. When availability allows, Student and Senior tickets can be purchased the day of the performance for $15.

On sale: 9/5/17 at 10am.

Prices are subject to change.

Late seating will take place through the Overture and will then resume at intermission.
