Film Screening: Welcome to Refugeestan

January 1, 1970 @ 12:00 AM

Free

The Utah Museum of Contemporary Art and Utah Film Center are proud to present “Welcome to Refugeestan” on June 14. Directed by Anne Poiret, the film explores the refugee system and its failures that can keep people trapped and stateless for decades. The filmmakers visit camps around the world, as well as the UNHCR’s headquarters in Geneva to reveal a system that combines humanitarian concerns with the management of undesirables rich countries want to keep out. “Welcome to Refugeestan” is an official selection of 2017 FIGRA Film Festival and 2017 United Nations Association Film Festival. The screening is free and open to the public – no tickets needed. For more information and to watch the trailer, visit www.utahfilmcenter.org/event/welcome-to-refugeestan.
