Subject: Fire and Light at Local Colors
Local Colors of Utah Art Gallery proudly presents Fire and Light featuring two local Utah Artists. This show features the award-winning glass art of Lori Scharf and the unique and amazing light catching metal art of Josh Epperson.
Lori Scharf has been working in fused or kiln-formed glass since 2003. Lori was first inspired by Dale Chihuly’s glass exhibit during the 2002 Winter Olympics in SLC. With her engineering background, it is easy for her to see glass as a structural element. She designs and creates fused glass sculptures, functional pieces and glass skylight panels. Lori enjoys creating glass art pieces as donations for fundraisers as well as private commissions, including light sconces, trays, wall hangings and fun decorative objects. She’d like to do more architectural pieces, such as cast glass stairs and furniture pieces containing fused glass. With her engineering background, it is easy for her to see glass as a structural element. She has shown and won awards including First Place, Best fused Jewelry, Awards of Excellence, Best of Show, and Juror’s Choice.
Josh Epperson works with steel sheets to create original pieces. Josh uses various abrasive mediums for texture and shape. Radically, even slight changes in angle cause drastic changes in color and pattern allowing each piece to be a journey. Josh’s art needs to be experienced in person to truly appreciate the hypnotic color and light changes. Josh works out of his studio in Salt Lake City, Utah. Originally from Phoenix, Arizona Josh came to Utah in 2000. He began commissioning metal pieces in 2011. Josh’s work has been featured in The Standard-Examiner, Element 11, The Salt Lake Art Walk, Sedona Arts Festival, Westminster College and the Urban Arts Festival.
Fire and Light opens September 20th with an evening reception on the 21st and runs through October 15th.
