Virtual Exhibitions by Spring Creek Middle School Students

May 20 – July 31, 2020
Due to school closures related to COVID-19, NEHMA adapted the Junior Curators program into an online experience. Despite not being able to visit NEHMA in person, students can learn about curation and find inspiration from the NEHMA collection as they create classroom exhibitions from home.

The assignment asks students to create original artwork and pair it with pieces from the NEHMA collection that complement their own. You can find the assignment materials on our Education page.

Meg Erekson, an art and ceramic teacher at Spring Creek Middle School, partnered with NEHMA staff to incorporate the Junior Curators assignment into her classes. The students worked together to create five virtual exhibitions related to topics under their theme for this year: “Stand For Something.” Each artwork and pottery piece portrays something they feel strongly about and are willing to fight for and/or promote social awareness of.
