Few artists manage to transcend the genres they come up in, yet cellist Andrew Yee (Attacca Quartet) and composer Caroline Shaw make it seem effortless. Their Grammy Award winning performances and Pulitzer Prize winning compositions inject humanity into contemporary art music with each new release. Their latest collaboration “Evergreen” is Grammy nominated for Best Chamber Performance. On Saturday, February 25th Mundi Project presents “Music from the Margins” featuring Andrew and Caroline at Alliance Theater in Trolley Square, where they will share their stories and music with Utah audiences.
Andrew’s experience as a biracial, non-binary performer in the classical music world has shaped their career and positioned them as a leader and advocate for queer performers. They are a co-founder of ChamberQUEER, a NYC music non-profit creating intersectionally inclusive spaces and highlighting LGBTQ+ voices in classical music. Their ongoing project “Halfie” explores living and performing outside of predominant social categories.

Saturday’s event will explore these themes, both personally and socially, and feature original compositions by long-time collaborator Caroline Shaw. Doors open at 6PM. The event is free. For more information and to RSVP, visit mundiproject.org/events
