UMOCA + Plan B Theatre Company Present: The Weird Play

February 28 @ 7:00 PM - 9:00 PM

$30

Come get weird with us.

The play is weird (it says so right in the title). Contemporary art can be weird, too (we mean this in the best way, of course). This is a match made in art heaven.

See Plan-B Theatre’s THE WEIRD PLAY with other supporters of UMOCA for one night only, February 28 at 7:00. You can claim your spot at this one-time sneak peak event by donating $30 to UMOCA. In return for your donation, you’ll get a ticket to THE WEIRD PLAY, and your donation will go directly to UMOCA’s Out Loud programming.

See? We told you it’s weird (in the best way).

ABOUT THE WEIRD PLAY:

Whom do you love?
What do you love?
How do you love?
And why?

THE WEIRD PLAY lives in the space between romance and devotion.

“THE WEIRD PLAY is a contemplation of first love, the ecstasy of love, really bad love, self love, religious love, the end of love, moving on from love. It’s different from anything I’ve ever done, putting into play every aspect of theatre I’ve been afraid of taking on.” – Playwright Jenifer Nii

Featuring Dee-Dee Darby-Duffin, Susanna Florence and April Fossen.

Designed by Cheryl Cluff (sound), Jaron Hermansen (lighting), Phil Lowe (costumes), Arika Schockmel (props). Stage managed by Jennifer Freed. Directed by Alex Ungerman.

A co-production with Sackerson.

ABOUT OUT LOUD:

Through explorations in contemporary art and the creation of a museum exhibition featuring their own artwork, students build their capacity for self-expression and cultivate a sense of agency as important contributors to our society. The program promotes a safer space for interactions with peers, mentors and the greater community, helping students build positive social connections and share their experiences with others.

ABOUT PLAN B THEATRE:

Since 1991, Plan-B has developed and produced unique and socially conscious theatre created by Utah playwrights.

We share stories with a local point-of-view as well as global stories from a local perspective.

We nourish a pool of local playwrights to rival that found in any other city in the country.

We believe the best way to serve our community is to reflect it onstage – to create conversation, to provide an opportunity for patrons to think a little differently, to consider a point-of-view that may have been previously foreign, to listen in a way they may not have before.

We have produced nearly 100 world premieres, including Utah’s first by an African American playwright and first by an Asian American playwright. Nationally, five of these plays have been nominated for the American Theatre Critics Association/Steinberg Award for Best New American Play Produced Outside New York, four have enjoyed extended lives in New York and two have been nominated for the Pulitzer Prize for Drama.

Fifty percent of our work since 2010 has been by female playwrights.

As noted by the Dramatists Guild of America, Plan-B is the only professional theatre company in the United States producing full seasons of new work by local playwrights and the only one to devote an entire season to the work of a local, living playwright (Matthew Ivan Bennett, 2008/09 and Eric Samuelsen, 2013/14, aka the #SeasonOfEric). We are also the only theatre company in Utah history to have toured coast-to-coast, to have toured internationally and to have transferred an intact production off-Broadway. We are also the only Utah theatre company committed to producing at least one play of LGBTQ interest each season.
