Utah Film Center: THE SEARCHERS
March 17 @ 7:00 PM - 9:00 PMFree
Utah Film Center is excited to announce our screening of The Searchers on March 17th at 7:00PM at the Rose Wagner Performing Arts Center. This 1956 Western from John Ford spurred much interest in filming Southern Utah’s iconic landscapes. Please join us for the screening and stick around afterward for a post-film conversation about the importance of the film and its impact on the perception of Native Americans with Andrew Patrick Nelson (Chair and Associate Professor at the Department of Film & Media Arts at The University of Utah), moderated by Doug Fabrizio (KUER 90.1 RadioWest).
Thought by many to be director John Ford’s masterpiece, The Searchers tells the story of Ethan Edwards (John Wayne), an ex-confederate soldier who swears revenge after his brother’s family is butchered by Comanches and his niece (Natalie Wood) is kidnapped. Accompanied by Martin Pawley (Jeffrey Hunter), a young foundling raised by the family, Ethan sets out on an epic seven-year search for the missing girl. But as their quest draws to a close, Martin begins to realize the extent to which Ethan has been dehumanized by his own thirst for revenge.
We’d love for you to join us and hope you’ll forward this email to your community and allies so they can participate as well.
