Overview: SLUG Magazine Film Festival Internships provide budding film journalists with professional experience. Film Festival Interns work in a fast-paced media environment during the primary Sundance Film Festival season from December 2024 to February 2025. This is a volunteer, hybrid internship position. Applicants must be Salt Lake City or Utah-based.
Reports to: Executive Editor, Junior Editor, Contributing Editor, Assistant Editor
Commitment: Three months, 8–10 hours/week with a potential hourly increase during the festival; both in-office and remote work required
Key Responsibilities:
- Posting film-related editorial content such as reviews and interviews on slugmag.com
- Copy editing and fact checking editorial film content
- Drafting and scheduling social media posts promoting SLUG’s film content
- Applying style guidelines for print and online posting
- Logging materials submitted for film coverage and organizing data thereof
- Distributing online-exclusive film materials to festival staff and PR contacts
- Representing SLUG Magazine in a professional manner through email communication
- Brainstorming for film-related editorial projects as needed
- Assisting with miscellaneous tasks related to the Editorial Department
Qualifications:
- SLUG Magazine reader
- Strong writing, grammar and copy editing skills
- Strong understanding of magazine principles
- Passion for Utah’s local film scene and elevating Utah’s creative culture
- Keen knowledge of music, arts, film, events and community subcultures
- Familiarity with the Sundance Film Festival
- Ability to maintain SLUG Magazine’s core values of transparency and integrity
- Working knowledge of AP Style guidelines
- Working knowledge of Adobe Suite, WordPress and SEO a plus
