Andrea DeMarcus and Dave Kirslis are a retro, simple-sounding folk duo: Cicada Rhythm. Their self-titled album is rooted in undeniable instrumental talent, with Kirslis on the guitar and DeMarcus on the stand-up bass. From song to song, the mood drifts from earth to sky and back again, both instrumentally and lyrically on tracks “In The Garden” and “Static In My Dream.” Cicada insects notoriously sing until meeting death, so it is fitting that while Cicada Rhythm are instrumentally adept, their sweet and haunting voices are the alluring, necessary wings to their body of rhythm. –Lizz Corrigan
