Comet Control = Fuzz + Dead Meadow – Echo & the Bunnymen
Toronto psych-rock band Quest For Fire disbanded last year, and Andrew Moszynski (guitar) and Chad Ross (vox/guitar) founded new Canuck psych band Comet Control. Perhaps they traded the heat inferred in the band name for more light. One thing they don’t lack is fuzz. Comet Control has opened for the Ty Segall’s psych project Fuzz, Dead Meadow and others. Psych rock is making the latest in a seemingly endless series of revivals, and Comet Control is a solid, no-frills practitioner of the contemporary version of the craft—tight rhythm section yet room for some sprawl, distorted guitars and breathy vocals. The song “Soft Parade” shows their devotion to pioneers like The Doors. If they don’t “break on through to the other side,” they at least brush up against the window earnestly. –Stakerized!
