Evans the Death = Shrag + Flowers + Girls Names
Expect Delays, which sits pretty between Eux Autres and Evan As We Speak in my iTunes library, is the second effort from London quartet Evans the Death, and it’s an explosive collection of stellar indie pop. Showing influences ranging from C86 to mbv to Sarah Records, Evans the Death rocket through, track after track, with a more polished sheen than the promise of their excellent debut had projected. From the tape squeal that warps into jaunty jangle pop raised to the power of lush shoegaze on the album’s title-track to the torch-burning of “Waste of Sunshine” and “Don’t Beat Yourself Up,” Expect Delays is brimming with a wide array of beautiful, fluffy indie-pop noise—there isn’t a down track to be found. –Christian Schultz
