Poliça = Warpaint + Blonde Redhead

The restructured Poliça, are back with their second album Shulamith just in time for the holidays. Vocalist Channy Leaneagh channels a ghostly essence with her ethereal sound and moody vibes without ever being too overbearing. The album is murky and reverb-heavy and the band really immerses itself into the ’80s new wave synth pop genre without seeming too blatantly retro. “Tiff,” featuring Justin Vernon, is the trailblazing single for Shulamith. It’s good, but other gems like “Matty” or “Smug” deserve more praise thanks to Chris Bierden’s dominating bass and sexy R&B rhythm. Overall, I dig the consistency of this album. It drifts from track to track without any uncomfortable pauses. This makes it the perfect go-to for any fall activity like a canyon drive, a ritualistic sacrifice around the fire, or just laying in bed at three o’clock in the morning practicing your black magic.
