Sallie Ford & the Sound Outside = Etta James + The Fresh & Onlys
One thing is clear on Untamed Beast: Sallie Ford is not afraid to be crazy, and will rock the fuck out. "Won’t you listen to me, I’m not a part of any scene. I can’t wait to see the day when all the genres melt away," sings Ford on "Rockabilly." If you’ve listened to her previous album, Dirty Radio, you’re in for a similar style of rockabilly (sorry to box you up, Sallie), but with a lot of hard kicks to the balls. Ford’s unique voice is delivered in an old-fashioned style, but then she’ll tell you to fuck off, basically, as evident in the song "Bad Boys," when she sings, "You may think of me as just a little girl you know, but I’m here to prove you wrong." It’s femininity with a punch, and I can’t get enough of it! –Brinley Froelich
