Applicants should provide a proven ability to work independently with little to no supervision, meet deadlines exceedingly, produce high-quality podcast-format narratives and effectively coordinate other people/schedules.

Soundwaves Producer is responsible for independently recording, editing, booking and making pitches for SLUG Magazine’s podcast, SLUG Soundwaves, which airs every two weeks. This is a contract position.


  • Coordinate podcast interviews
  • Conduct podcast interviews
  • Edit podcasts
  • Musician/artist research
  • Conducting pre-interviews phone calls for research
  • Shape audio narratives with editing
  • Receive feedback on rough podcasts to create finals versions
  • Edit/create/record radio spots for podcast
  • Work with SLUG Editor and editorial team to develop work
  • Represent SLUG professionally on and off the clock
  • Actively seek local subjects for episodes
  • Promote content on social media


  • Own audio/recording equipment and editing software comparable to or including Pro Tools, Logic, Cubase
  • Audio-editing experience; podcast creation preferred
  • Detail-oriented editing style
  • Able to travel to and conduct in-person interviews at the SLUG Magazine office
  • Strong organizational, communicational and social skills
  • Experience with social media preferred
  • SLUG Magazine reader
  • Exceptional Utah-local music knowledge
  • Have storytelling senses and narrative-forming abilities
  • Teamwork capabilities and results-oriented mindset
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Familiarity with songwriting/music composition preferred
