40 Years of Folk | Free Exhibition at Chase Home Museum

Opening Reception: June 5, 4:30 – 7 p.m.
Performance by Slack Key Guitarist Kimo Watanabe: 6 – 7 p.m.
This event is free. Light refreshments will be served, but we kindly ask that you RSVP to help us plan accordingly.
Kimo Watanabe is a Bountiful-based musician and artist. He plays ukulele and slack key guitar and practices traditional Hawaiian and Samoan carving arts. Kimo is also a previous mentor in our Folk Arts Apprenticeship program and a 2025 Utah Artist Fellow in Design Arts.

Stepping into the historic Chase Home Museum, you will experience the incredible craftsmanship of Utah’s folk artisans. Across multiple generations and cultural heritages, this exhibition showcases how folk traditions remain vibrant, powerful, and deeply relevant today.

• Handcrafted classical guitar
• Intricately decorated wax-resist eggs
• Korean ink and folk paintings
• Paquimé-style pottery molded from local Utah clay
• Heritage Shoshone beadwork and medallions
• Traditional Puerto Rican festival masks (Vejigantes and Cabezudos)
• Hand-twined Great Depression-era-style rag rugs
