SLUG Cat 2015

Every year SLUG Mag hosts the SLUG Cat bike race to celebrate SLC’s vibrant bike community. Inspired by the scavenger hunt-style bicycle races made popular by bike messengers in places like New York and San Francisco, SLUG Cat has become an unparalleled event in the community and is a must for all local riders, whether you’ve been cycling for years or are still on training wheels.

On Saturday, May 23rd, SLUG, held its Third Annual SLUG Cat Alleycat Race through the streets of Salt Lake City. Over 40 riders braved a torrential downpour early in the race, zipping across the city to complete various tasks—from lip-syncing ABBA to helping put together a children’s bike—within the race’s time limit. Winners were announced at Velo City Bags’ storefront on Pierpont Ave., at an after party set to a selection of groovy 45s from DJ Nix Beat and Jesse Stewart.
