SLUG Cat 2020
Every year SLUG Mag hosts the SLUG Cat bike race to celebrate SLC’s vibrant bike community. Inspired by the scavenger hunt-style bicycle races made popular by bike messengers in places like New York and San Francisco, SLUG Cat has become an unparalleled event in the community and is a must for all local riders, whether you’ve been cycling for years or are still on training wheels.
On Saturday, June 27, SLC cyclists donned their masks and rallied together at Saturday Cycles to compete in the 8th Annual SLUG Cat Presented By New Belgium Brewing and Sparrow Electric!
Given only a manifest of clues and a copy of SLUG Mag’s 8th Annual Bike Issue, riders were off to solve riddles and and compete in challenges ranging from trivia questions at SLUG‘s GREENbike station to throwing tires at the Salt Lake City Bicycle Collective.
Not even the blazing sun could stop the riders from giving it their all in this scavenger hunt–style race. Their hard work was rewarded with a free slice of ’za courtesy of Lucky Slice and some schwag from our incredible sponsors.
SLUG Magazine would like to thank all of the sponsors that made this year’s SLUG Cat possible: Salt Lake City Bicycle Collective, Bingham Cyclery, Blue Copper Coffee, Dented Brick Distillery, The Gateway, GREENbike, Lucky Slice Pizza, Mountain West Hard Cider, New Belgium Brewing, Pig & A Jelly Jar, Saturday Cycles, Sparrow Electric, and Waterpocket Distillery.
