SLUG Cat 2022
Every year SLUG Mag hosts the SLUG Cat bike race to celebrate SLC’s vibrant bike community. Inspired by the scavenger hunt-style bicycle races made popular by bike messengers in places like New York and San Francisco, SLUG Cat has become an unparalleled event in the community and is a must for all local riders, whether you’ve been cycling for years or are still on training wheels.
The 10th annual SLUG Cat Presented By Fat Tire & Mark Miller Subaru was an excellent way to welcome the warm weather for cyclists across the valley. Rolling into the event, you could feel the excitement as the smell of nearby construction fused with the musky smell of well-used cycling gear.
Local bike shop, Saturday Cycles, hosted the event, which perfectly showed their great space full of good people and quality parts. Pre-race, the event had a fun and carefree vibe, as hardened cycling locals & newbies chatted about everything bicycle-related.
When the event was underway, people quickly got the clues they needed to find their stops. The area filled with anticipation as groups scanned over the clues to figure out their plan of action for the day.
What was a relaxing afternoon quickly turned into pure excitement as soon as the riders hit the road to stop at designated stops to play mini-games and record their stops.
The day ended with an awards ceremony. Categories included a men’s and women’s division, as well as the cheeky “Dead Fucking Last.”
