Mocosos = Dicks + more filth and grime

Negligence and dirt, desperation and foul need that drives the hands to violence, the stark negativity aroused by Mocosos via their ungodly release RE DEMO writhes with a pulse and ability to swallow a room, dragging it and all within deep into its acid rotted gut.

Mocosos proudly presents the raw-punk trio’s first official release on all streaming platforms, making it clear that they intend to peddle their message of sonic violence to as many victims as they can possibly reach. From beginning to bitter end this release feels like it’s challenging you to a game of chicken where your sanity is at stake. Driving punk beats and wide noise-pollution bass set an equally as-disquieting-as-it-is-interesting soundscape for Ra Meat’s vocals to crawl into and explode into an endless, shapeshifting harbinger of discord.

Lumbering and concisely hamfisted, the flow and overall compositional motif reflects an emphasis of extreme anger and love of punk music. If I were to sum up the release’s sound in a few words, I’d say it’s like (ever so slightly) slower old school hardcore with crazier screaming and more of a metal-ish tone on the bass (the three piece does not include a guitarist).

The ideal listening environment for this piece of media could be anywhere, at any time. As long as the mind is willing and the body able to sustain a battery of rhythmically driven assaults on the sanctity of your soul. Hyperbole aside, RE DEMO is legitimately interesting and sticks out as a blueprint for one of many possible futures of the genre amid the booming punk renaissance of present times. I truly enjoy the idea of the three piece and MOCOSOS locks it down in both performative and conceptual/compositional arenas. My one (yet pretty crucial in my humble opinion) critique of this release is a little more clarity in the final product. After personally enjoying these guys’ performance live and listening to the release, I wish there was a little more ease of listening as it becomes a little difficult to distinguish song from song due to a bit too much mud; however I am willing and able to call myself uninformed if this sonic quality is in fact what was sought after by the artists and would be excited to take a second look with a willingness to appreciate the concept.

If I were to suggest a single track it would definitely be “Podrido.” It cuts through the rest of the discography as far as clarity goes and does a great job of making clear the musical and thematic intention of the body of work.

Definitely give RE DEMO a listen if you are into darkness, loathing, panic as a concept, hitting your friends, getting hit by your friends, punk, metal, dogs, cats, rodents, husker du’s, husker donts, free admission to the mormon museum, or kisses from the homies.
