SLUG Mag’s 37th Anniversary Party: 37 Badass Years and Counting!
Anniversary Party
SLUG Magazine is old enough to be your dad! In honor of its 37th birthday, we threw a party only fit for parents being out of town on Saturday, Feb. 21 at Metro Music Hall. Because 37 candles would be too many to blow out, we opted for 37 artists instead. This rapid-fire format featured 37 local bands, each playing one hit single, all captured by our outstanding photographer, Diego Cuevas. The crowd turned their attention back and forth between a bigger stage fit for multi-member ensembles with rocking instrumentals to a small stage suited for intimate performances from synth artists and singer-songwriters alike.
The night was both eclectic and electric, with a range of genres including bluegrass, thrash metal, electronic and more all being shown on stage. Seeing killer acts play was not the only activity of the evening. Made-to-order T-shirts were screen-printed by Utah Shirt Company right before your eyes with the cover design from our recent Best of the 2000s Issue, and Kin Kao Thai was serving up warm, authentic Thai food to help you fight off the cold outside.
Bianca Velasquez — KRCL DJ, beadwork artist and SLUG editor in a past life — was our fabulous MC (with some help from SLUG Associate Editor Alton Barnhart between show-stopping outfit changes). Barnhart also served as a natural talk-show host, conducting interviews with various musicians from the line up for an upcoming episode of SLUG Soundwaves!
SLUG Magazine could not have made it this far without you, dear reader, and we could not have put on the event of the year without the help of our godsend sponsors:
