Four days, four stages and 75 artists? Kilby Block Party was bigger and better than ever this year! So now, as the sun sets on yet another KBP and the once-energetic moshers stagger their way back to their cars, the fabulous pop girlies race to catch the last train and the talented artists pack up their instruments before hitting the road, let’s take one last look back at KBP 6.

The party raged from Thursday, May 15 to Sunday, May 18 at the Utah State Fairpark. As for the weather, let’s just say it was as varied as the artists on the lineup. Food trucks and stands lined the walkways as far as the eye could see. Those needing a reprieve from the outdoor moshing could enjoy some good old-fashioned clubbing at the Silent Disco. And everyone knows that KBP is a magnet for indie enjoyers who appreciate a good vinyl, so it was the right call for 3hive Record Lounge to bring a literal van filled wall to wall with vinyls ranging from classic pop to anime soundtracks. There was also no need for the constant hassle of taking out your ID anytime you wanted an alcoholic beverage, since they provided 21+ wristbands. Honestly, the thought that went into providing amenities was impressive. The Take 10 Lounge provided shade, free Nutri-Grain Bars, dry seating and phone charging stations. All this praise, and we haven’t even gotten into the music.

This year featured a smorgasbord of musical tastes: upbeat bedroom pop icons like Suki Waterhouse, the quirky synths of shoegaze bands like Slowdive, your local indie garage bands like Cardinal Bloom and ear-bursting post-punk groups like Gang of Four. There was no shortage of good music to choose from — whether you were looking for a daring new flavor with a bit of kick like SASAMI, or reliable classics like headliners New Order and Weezer, you were virtually guaranteed to leave satisfied. Needless to say, KBP 6 was a feast for the ears.

If you want to hear more about individual acts, check out our reviews of 32 of the best Kilby Block Party performances. Even with the puddles and mud, the fact that there was so much to do and a buffet of music to choose from only leaves me eagerly anticipating what new surprises await us at Kilby Block Party 7.
