Local Review: 23 Extacy – Brutal

Posted on July 10, 2004 (January 28, 2022) by Asha Pruitt

23 EXTACY BRUTAL Nova One Productions 23 Extacy = Ministry (but darker) + Error (but darker) The first time I got my mitts on old, unreleased and unavailable Red Bennies tracks from the bands’ first four years, it felt like panhandling a gold chunk. Fans of 23 Extacy should feel the same way with the

Local Review: Aaron Cole – Aorotica

Posted on December 15, 2004 (January 24, 2022) by Asha Pruitt

Aaron Cole Aarotica Aaron Cole = The Prodigy + Clover   With Aarotica, Aaron Cole, who has been involved in local projects for over a decade, blends repetitive electronic beats with dub and drum and bass with soft alt-rock and world music, resulting in an infectious dance mix for a party of monstrous proportions, or

Local Review: Almost Undone – Sugar & Despair

Posted on March 27, 2005 (January 24, 2022) by Asha Pruitt

Almost Undone Sugar & Despair Combining the best of Evanescence and Kittie, Almost Undone present a choppy, chunky metal cocktail that’s a little bit nü, a little bit jagged core (Crisis, Otep, Kittie). I never liked Evanescence, but Brenna White does a better job than Amy Lee or Morgan Lander combined, especially since Kittie has

Local Review: 90s Television – Going Blonde

Posted on September 4, 2013 (September 9, 2022) by Asha Pruitt
90s Television - Going Blonde album artwork

90s Television Going Blonde Self-Released Street: 12.14.12 90s Television = The Strokes + Animal Collective + Pepper + Smile from the Streets You Hold–era John Frusciante I think these guys found their recording equipment rusting in some corner of the D.I. Going Blonde is a distorted mess, which makes certain tracks almost painful to bear.

Posted on April 3, 2014 (January 24, 2022) by Asha Pruitt

Local Review – The Wild War – Valley Rain EP

Posted on June 4, 2014 (January 24, 2022) by Asha Pruitt

Listening to four songs is almost enough to get to know a band, though in this case, I feel like there might be something missing. “The Architecture,” is a cool, solemn and folksy number that really draws from The Devil Whale. … read more
