SLUG Style: Michael Wright
Art and Fashion
Michael Wright is a musician and bartender at Water Witch.
Every month, SLUG Style features a distinct and unique member of the community and asks them why they do what they do. Exploring more than just clothing, SLUG Style is an attempt to feature the people who give Salt Lake City flavor through personality and panache.

![Concerning his stylistic influences, Wright says, "Buckaroo Banzai [full title: The Adventures of buckaroo Banzai across the 8th Dimension]. It's an early ’80s movie about a scientist traveling into the eighth dimension. It's got Peter Weller and Jeff Goldblum, and the characters have this radical style. It was heavily obviously influenced by ’80s new wave culture, but it was [an] ’80s new wave take on what the future would be like. So, it was a little bit extra bizarre.”](https://www.slugmag.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/SLUG_Style_Michael_7a-400x290.jpg)

![“Even [in] elementary school I would make my band t-shirts. I was obsessed with a lot of post-hardcore bands coming out of sixth grade [and] going into junior high," says Wright. "My mom wouldn't let me wear those band t-shirts, so I would just make them. I would just get plain white t-shirts and write Quicksand on it or something.”](https://www.slugmag.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/SLUG_Style_Michael_3a-400x290.jpg)
!["I was in a band and toured a bunch, and ended up being a hopeless romantic. [I] ended up moving other places to date other people," says Wright. "At that time, I was playing bass. Now I just play with analog synthesizers and do a little bit more IDM, just experimental electronic music.”](https://www.slugmag.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/SLUG_Style_Michael_6a-400x290.jpg)
