On Saturday, May 9, the streets of downtown Salt Lake City became filled with the rapid flicker and clicking of shifting gears, as nearly 100 bicyclists competed in the alleycat-style scavenger hunt known as SLUG Cat!

Racers started at the SLUG headquarters, where they were greeted with live music from DJ Nix Beat. There, racers would be register in and given a cleverly-crafted manifest of destinations and tasks, including (but not limited to) a cold plunge at Glow and streetbox graffiti on Exchange Place. Through miles of asphalt and the first bit of heat of the year, racers would meet back at HQ for some merch, delicious Asian fried chicken courtesy of Happy Tummie and live drag-tastic performances from our local queens: Cookie Pusss, Anita Poosay and Kay Bye!

As the event came to a close, the racers taking first, second and third place in men’s, women’s and non-binary division were rewarded for their trials…and those who came in Dead Fucking Last were laughed at (just kidding). With such a fun, thrilling adventure to kick off the summer, we like to thank all the participants, volunteers and confused bystanders who made this SLUG Cat so exhilarating! We’ll see you next year!
