On Aug. 21, audiences were treated to a whimsical and vibrant night of fun and music. Three female-led bands took the stage at the Provo Rooftop Concert series, and brought their own unique flair to the microphone. The inclusion of electric and soaring tunes with local vendors and businesses created a distinctly welcoming atmosphere that highlighted the artistry of the Provo community. It is safe to say that this Provo Rooftop Concert was one to remember, and it is all thanks to the talent of Goldmyth, Little Moon and The Aces.

Goldmyth was the perfect set of performers to start the night off strong. Serenading the audiencewith their signature energetic melodies, Goldmyth was able to make a big impression and set the mood for the acts that followed. In some way, one could describe Goldmyth as the perfect fusion of the two bands that followed. Their upbeat and hypnotic anthems filled the air with a sense of delight, and I have to give credit to a band that integrates underrepresented string instruments, like a harp, into their compositions. The harp elevated their performance and gave their music a truly magical quality.

In between sets, I looked around the streets, excited to discover everything the local spots in the vicinity had to offer. It also helped that vendors lined the street with unique trinkets and artwork. I simply couldn’t get enough and had a blast just admiring the historic buildings along the streets. After a quick meal at Sensuous Sandwich — an awesome time-capsule of the 1980s — I made my way back to the stage to catch the ever-enchanting Little Moon.

Her set was everything I had hoped it would be: expansive, ethereal, liberating and, of course, whimsical. There is a level of warmth Little Moon brings to her music that makes it a joy to listen to, and that quality is amplified during a live performance. Her soft-spoken banter leads to a welcome surprise when you hear her powerful vocals. Accompanying her at this performance was Bly Wallentine on bass, her sister Betsy Croft on the pennywhistle, Bentley Rae on electric guitar, Grace Johnson on keys, Chris Shemwell on drums and rounding out the band, Little Moon spotlighted a local choir, the Utah Sacred Harp Singers. Their addition gave the songs a deeper richness and texture. Little Moon excited the audience by letting them know that she would be performing music that has not been released. One was “Cowboy,” a folksy tune with a bouncy choral sound. “The Loneliest Unicorn” was also a highlight of the set, with powerful vocals and spellbinding harmonies that made me even more upset that the song still hasn’t been released. By the end of Little Moon’s set, I was eager to listen to even more of their music.

Before the next performance, I made my way to JJ Burger for a shake. A small hike, but I managed to make it back in time to catch The Aces take the stage. The Aces lit up the night with their energetic sound and engaging performance. Their catchy pop melodies allowed the audience to fully immerse themselves in the experience. Listening to “Gold Star Baby” live was one of the best moments of the night. The Aces also showed their performance prowess by engaging with the audience and inviting them to participate in songs like “The Magic,” where the audience was invited to raise their hands and finish the verse. All in all, The Aces closed this Provo Rooftop Concert with a bang!
