Review: Peter Murphy – Unshattered

Posted on June 7, 2005 (July 8, 2025) by Asha Pruitt

Unshattered is aptly titled in that it never really rattles. … read more

Review: Off the Cuff – Shake

Posted on August 4, 2005 (September 4, 2025) by Asha Pruitt

From northeast England, the production duo of “Off the Cuff” are Karl Frampton and Si Liliker. Welcoming them to the Soulfuric team with new single “Shake.” … read more

Review: Panikk – Unbearable Conditions

Posted on May 8, 2013 (January 24, 2022) by Asha Pruitt

Aping a classic Yankee sound with precision, finesse and a smattering of rough-hewn technicality, Slovenian (!) rippers Panikk pay bleary-eyed tribute to the golden age of Reagan-era noggin shakers, ante-upping “party thrash” contemporaries with fretboard frenetics. … read more

Review: Ohvaur

Posted on May 29, 2013 (January 24, 2022) by Asha Pruitt

Opening with one of the chunkiest bass lines in recent memory, A Memories Chase is an album as musically powerful as the story that led up to it. … read more

Review: Old Man Markley

Posted on May 29, 2013 (January 24, 2022) by Asha Pruitt

OMM play fast-paced bluegrass that they approach like people living in the present day. I guess that makes them the new punks on the scene, but I just hear well-crafted, original music that happens to have bluegrass elements. … read more

Review: Old Wounds

Posted on May 29, 2013 (January 24, 2022) by Asha Pruitt

There is a certain, special je ne sais quoi about the sound that Jersey-based Old Wounds deliver. It’s not new or groundbreaking, nor is it a completely tried-and-true homage to some old hardcore sound. Devastatingly simple, it is heavy music stripped to its rotted bones and delivered without pretense or gimmick.  … read more

Review: Ólöf Arnalds

Posted on May 29, 2013 (January 24, 2022) by Asha Pruitt

Ólöf Arnalds comes from the land of ice and Sigur Rós, and although this is her third album, Sudden Elevation is the first to be sung entirely in English. The album was written mostly during a two-week stint in the fall in a seaside cabin, which gives it a cohesive feeling from start to finish. … read more

Posted on June 4, 2013 (January 24, 2022) by Asha Pruitt

The sound and mood on Abandon aren’t unsettling in the manner that being forced into an uncomfortable conversation can be. … read more

Review: Paper Dragons – Die To Please

Posted on June 7, 2013 (January 24, 2022) by Asha Pruitt

Some of the more snotty sounding vocals in the modern punk scene, Paper Dragons’ Die To Please is a fast and unforgiving album. While sticking close to punk cannon, this album (originally released in 2007) kicks out some aggressive jams—you can almost hear the sweat dripping through your headphones. … read more

Review: Of Feather And Bone – False Healer

Posted on June 28, 2013 (January 24, 2022) by Asha Pruitt

There is heavy music, and then there’s heavy music that makes you want to put your fist through a wall. Of Feather and Bone’s False Healer is one of them. … read more

Review: Pet Shop Boys – Electric

Posted on October 2, 2013 (January 24, 2022) by Asha Pruitt

With so much EDM glutting up the market—and so much of it disposable—it is nice when artists in the know produce dynamic versions of it, as if saying, “This is how it can be done.” … read more

Review: Odesza – My Friends Never Die EP

Posted on October 30, 2013 (January 24, 2022) by Asha Pruitt

Whereas Summer’s Gone gave way to the more mellow side of things, MFND is supplemented with bouncier bass and trippier effects, but still manages to keep a solid grasp on Odesza’s winning formula of vocal samples layered over catchy, danceable beats. … read more
