“I’d describe Cool Banana as muppet rock [and] theatrical. There’s a theatrical element there,” says Blandon. “We like to bring a lot of sets to our shows, like set design. We like to just dress it up a bit and just incorporate [one] kind of visual element on stage even if it’s not being used. It’s still kind of serving a purpose as a visual element.”
“I think I’ve always just kinda worn stuff. And I remember there was a time when people would bug me, like why do you wear such old clothes?” says Blandon. “But to me, it was like ‘I don’t know’. I’ve just kinda worn stuff like this shirt, I’ve had this since high school. I haven’t worn this [other shirt]. I just wore it for the photo shoot.”
“I’ve always had this weird style. I think just ’cause my family is kind of … themselves [and] been stuck in like the ’80s,” says Blandon. Photo: @clancycoop
“I actually am inspired by Edward Scissorhands, like the way that he cuts things out really fast. I kind of try to do that in my animation ’cause I do a lot of cut-out animation,” says Blandon. “I like to imagine myself being Edward Scissorhands sometimes cutting a shrub, like seeing how fast I can go around corners and how smooth I can get a cutout.” Photo: @clancycoop
“I guess, yeah, there are normal days. Just like white t-shirt, slacks, you know? But I don’t know. I guess mostly I would just wear this and not think of anything and yeah, maybe to others it could seem like, oh, he’s retro’d out or something,” says Blandon. Photo: @clancycoop
I like collecting. If something speaks to me, I’ll buy it, whether it be something wacky like the Countach poster or if it’s weird like marionette over there,” says Blandon.
“Performing, you create your own stage persona or whatever and sometimes it can be wackier than you are. It’s kinda like The Mask with Jim Carrey,” says Blandon. Photo: @clancycoop
“I also like puppetry too, that’s another thing that is kinda gets overlooked a lot, especially ’cause I do so much animation, but I also do a lot of puppetry and I like experimenting with different types of ways of manipulating puppets,” says Blandon. Photo: @clancycoop
