Episode #514: Vylette Beauregarde

If Violet Beauregarde had picked up a guitar instead of turning into a blueberry, she might’ve ended up in Vylette Beauregarde. This SLC band is making loud, femme-fronted alt-rock with a kickass yet laid-back ’90s grunge streak, and we are here for it! When it comes to describing their sound, the closest they’ve heard is “alterna-brat-buzz-baby,” a phrase from an interview with Veruca Salt, and honestly, it’s hard to beat. Inspired by bands like Juliana Hatfield and Belly, these musicians are carrying the torch for femme rock without getting stuck in the past. Even the name has a little attitude, drawing on Jawbreaker and Willy Wonka’s famously demanding Violet Beauregarde. Between building songs together via Google Docs and coordinating their outfits, this crew is figuring out how to grow together while still letting each member bring something different to the mix. They’re here to play loud, try new things and make music that sounds like them — no golden ticket required!
