Saturday, Sept. 18 was day three at the Dew Tour and by far the busiest of the four-day event. I checked out the Gatorade Free Flow skatepark finals where Salt Lake City local Tyson Bowerbank held it down and pulled off third place overall. … read more
Dew Tour Day 4
Sunday, Sept. 19 marked the last day of Dew Tour here in Salt Lake City for 2010. It was also the day I was waiting for to see the skate vert finals. The Arena was packed almost every seat filled fans watched in awe as the pros warmed up. As an intro Gatorade put on the grom demo where some super little kids shredded the ramp, there was even a seven year old who did cork 540s! Autolux @ Urban Lounge
Watching Autolux play is like watching a controlled detonation: so many painstaking details just to watch something explode into a million pieces. Likewise, Autolux’s set was professional down to the last detail. Small, single-bulb lamps and white satin ribbon lights were tied to just about every mic stand and amplifier onstage. With as much exposition as Autolux put into their live show the performance itself exceeded the lofty expectations set by mood and ambience. … read more
Donna Orbits the Moon
For a one-woman play about mid-menopausal schizophrenia, Donna Orbits the Moon seemed pretty spot on. The play touched on family, friends, bake sales and feelings of insanity. I’m no forty-something year old, but based on the reaction of the audience members of that age and their slightly amused husbands, I’d say it was relatable on more than a few levels.
Titus Andronicus with Free Energy @ Kilby 09.14
I thought I’d be the only Titus Andronicus fan at this show, but was pleasantly surprised when a friend showed up who was just as eager to see them. The crowd was intimate, but lively.

Did you know that September 19 is officially Utah Chamber Artists’ Day? Neither did anyone else until that date this year, when one of Governor Gary Herbert’s minions announced before the concert at the Cathedral of the Madeleine that he (the governor) decreed it so. It was a transparent bid at free campaign exposure, but the concert that followed more than made up for the rocky start. … read more
Smashing Pumpkins 09.17 @ In the Venue
Honestly, I went into this show with low expectations. Sure, I listened to Mellon Collie & the Infinite Sadness in Jr. high school. I bought the Aeroplane Flies High box set. I was one of the disappointed when Adore came out sans Jimmy Chamberlain (and sans rocking), who slowly converted to the album’s beauty. I actually liked Machina/the Machines of God, and I saw the Pumpkins absolutely kill it at Saltair on that final tour in 2000. … read more
