Reviews: Boards of Canada – Tomorrow’s Harvest

Posted on September 5, 2013 (January 24, 2022) by Asha Pruitt

As a record, Tomorrow’s Harvest falls back into familiar sounds that have made them a touchstone in contemporary music: decaying, VHS transfer textures, drawn-out synth melodies, understated beats, the occasional guitar line or serrated arpeggio and obscure sampling of robotics long gone by. … read more

Reviews: Boys Noize – Go Hard EP

Posted on September 5, 2013 (January 24, 2022) by Asha Pruitt

My favorite track, “Go Hard,” uses a sample off of Kreayshawn’s “Go Hard (La,La,La)” track from her Somethin’ Bout Kreay album. … read more

Reviews: Bran(…)Pos – Den of Ordure and Iridescence

Posted on September 5, 2013 (January 24, 2022) by Asha Pruitt

Although the production on this album was decent and obviously had a lot of thought put into it, I couldn’t help but sit there and think “why?” while my eyes glazed over as I listened to it.  … read more

Reviews: Bullbuckers – When Push Comes To Shove

Posted on September 5, 2013 (January 24, 2022) by Asha Pruitt

I have been told that I was probably supposed to be high as fuck while listening to this album, but as it is, that warm, brass-heavy sexiness did the job even running on sobriety.  … read more

Reviews: Centuries – Taedium Vitae

Posted on September 5, 2013 (January 24, 2022) by Asha Pruitt

Floridan Swedeath-ers play at misanthropy with latin song titles, stark imagery and the hum-drum casserole of D-beat, doom and crust topping most bearded blogger “best of” lists.  … read more

Reviews: Carcass – Surgical Steel

Posted on September 5, 2013 (January 24, 2022) by Asha Pruitt

I, for one, admire what Carcass have done with the album—it feels exactly like what original members Jeff Walker and Bill Steer wanted to do.  … read more

Reviews: CSS – Planta

Posted on September 5, 2013 (January 24, 2022) by Asha Pruitt

CSS may be one of the more iconic groups to come out of Brazil, but they are not very comparable to the other synth pop artists of today. … read more

Reviews: Ezra Furman – Day of the Dog

Posted on September 5, 2013 (January 24, 2022) by Asha Pruitt

Old school pop and current folk with splashes of gritty vintage pop-punk make Ezra Furman’s newest solo release a nonpareil flashback/contemporary mash up. … read more

Reviews: Emblazoned – The Living Magisterium

Posted on September 5, 2013 (January 24, 2022) by Asha Pruitt

A little bit of old school goes a long way, and Emblazoned do a great job of mixing American death with the good old Swedish death. … read more

Posted on September 5, 2013 (January 24, 2022) by Asha Pruitt

Garage-rock, a little indie, even a little fuzzy, High Gain is a perfectly decent EP that plays it safe in every way. … read more

Local Reviews: CastleAxe – Castlemaster

Posted on March 25, 2013 (January 24, 2022) by Asha Pruitt
CastleAxe - Castlemaster album cover

Hark! CastleAxe (formerly Speitre) hath returned with their brand of classic heavy metal, melded with bludgeoning blows of thrash. As the hilt supports the blade, so does Grög’s rhythm guitar with Hölger’s steel-soldered leads in euphonious synchrony … read more
