Posted on August 8, 2015 (January 24, 2022) by Angela

Gaming conventions have a subpar record in our backyard. The GEEX expos of 2010-11 felt more like military recruiting grounds with some new tech on display than cons. I attended GEEX in 2011 with the aspiration of winning a Gears of War tournament. Oh, how naive I was. I didn’t expect much of a turnout (and

Local Reviews: DJ Shanty

Posted on April 1, 2013 (January 24, 2022) by Asha Pruitt

The master of the turntables for local hip hop legends The Numbs has not been idle since 2011’s Soulburn release. The production of Megatherium, an instrumental beat album, is halfway between classic video games, breakbeats and world music with buzzed-out bass behind tight snare and rich woodblock and tom drum hits.  … read more

Levi Rounds doing a comedy set with Jokers Gone Wild.

Levi Rounds has hit a milestone for any comedian in the business, and although we’re not talking about him just staying alive for a decade—which is also impressive—he’s been gracing stand-up comedy stages for 10 years strong. This Saturday, Aug. 8, at Metro Bar, Rounds will celebrate with his show “A Decade Deep” doing the

Local Reviews: 2WENTYTHRE3

Posted on March 28, 2013 (January 24, 2022) by Asha Pruitt

The thing about this 2WENTYTHRE3 is that it’s really pretty good for what it is. From the little information I could find about Jared Smith, a Utahn, he’s taking himself pretty seriously and trying  earnestly to turn in a solid effort for his sound and his branding, and it’s easy to tell that he is working very hard at both. … read more
