Pissed Off in Pursuit of Protest: A Conservative Chat with...
Deep in the bowels of the SLUG dungeon, I had the bizarre pleasure of a tête-à-tête with no-wave pythoness Lydia Lunch, detailing her newest music ventures and volatile impressions of 21st Century society.
The Quest for Water: A Conversation with YOB’s Mike Scheidt
Seven records into their career, YOB are becoming elder statesmen in the republic of doom. Their stature derives from their output of consistently wrought-iron albums, but also from discernable wisdom and humility.
Meet the Artists: The Millards and Uinta’s Brighton IPA Label
Nate and Bree Millard are successfully navigating the art world. In the last year, they have elevated their brand, Ban Supply Collaboration, increased the commissions of their woodcut signs and locked in the contract to create the new Brighton IPA label for Uinta Brewing Company.

Localized: Six Feet in the Pine
This month’s Localized is going to be one hell of a musical showdown. Porch to Porch will heat up the stage with their wild riffs, foot-tapping harmonica and bending elbows. The night will end in a Western frenzy by Six Feet in the Pine, who aren’t your average church-goin’ folk, though they’re serious cowboys, strummers and pluckers. Stop by Urban Lounge May 15 at 10 p.m. for just $5.
Localized: Mooninite
This month’s Localized is going to be an auditory treat. Starting off the night, Blade will open with some killer ambient improv soundscapes. Expect to get groovy with the chiptune, foot-working sounds of RS2090. The night will end in a crescendo of intricate loops and craftily selected samples by master of sound Mooninite. Stop by Urban Lounge March 13 at 10 p.m. for just $5, sponsored by Uinta Brewing Co., KRCL 90.9FM and Spilt Ink SLC.
Squarewave Sound
“What I really find cool about synths is they find a home in a lot of genres of music. A lot of people maybe don’t think about them in that way, but they’re very versatile instruments.”

To the Housewarming Party: East Liberty Tap House
East Liberty Tap House sits at the sunset end of 9th East and 9th South. It started as rumors—initially conceived as a neighborhood bar, a symbol of Salt Lake’s progress. Here it is, not a full bar, but a tavern tucked inside a bright, tightly furnished, little restaurant.

Zola Jesus: Creativity in Isolation
It’s been two years since Zola Jesus (aka Nika Roza Danilova) blessed SLC with her ethereal voice that caused us to rethink how we view the world around us. SLUG recently had the opportunity to sit down with Danilova, who returns to Urban Lounge Jan. 12, and to discuss the environment, living in isolation and her new album, Taiga.
I Was Asking For It: Interview with George “Corpsegrinder” Fisher
My hands begin to shake as I prepare to interview a man I easily hold in higher regard than Ludwig van Beethoven, William Shakespeare and Galileo Galilei combined—George "Corpsegrinder" Fisher.
