SLUG’s 16th Annual Summer of Death Presented By Monster: Bowl...
Skate decks echoed the sound of claps as they were thumped by contestants and spectators alike, after watching Parley Southworth, 24, complete his winning trick—a truck driver disaster from a waist-high ledge into the bowl. This was the Summer of Death Presented By Monster: Bowl Jam at Banzai, SLUG’s 16th Annual Skate Competition Series in Lindon on Saturday, June 20. … read more
E3 2015: Little Big Con – Day One
While the day zero press conferences make it easy to drool over the pantheon of new and exciting video games will be premiering this year, E3’s real power manifests itself on the exhibition floor. It’s a humbling experience to take control of a fledgling game as its developer looks on like a proud parent, but it’s these surreal moments that truly determine whether an upcoming title will be something special. … read more

E3 2015: Prepare to Party Hard with Dark Souls 3...
The best thing about E3 is that a mind-altering video game experience is always waiting just around the corner. Even when I think that I’ve seen every genre or game mechanic that there is to see, some crazy-ass developer comes up with something that makes me redefine what a video game is. On my second day of E3, I dug deep into the fertile loam of publishers tinyBuild and Bandai Namco to find a lineup of games that tested my boundaries in all the right ways. … read more
E3 2015: Old and New Loves – Starfox and Yarny...
I finally made my way out of the west hall today to do some exploring in the south hall. I couldn’t leave the West Hall without finishing up with Nintendo’s biggest games—Starfox Zero and Super Mario Maker. In the South Hall, I found one of the most beautiful platformers I’ve ever seen. … read more
E3 2015: Jesus Is My Co-Op Buddy – Day Two
It’s the second to last day here at E3 and I think that this will go down as one of the best times I’ve had in recent memory. I got to mingle with celebrities, play some of the hottest games, have ridiculous photos taken with models that flirted with me for my obvious good looks and definitely not because they were paid to, be a rock star in front of an adoring crowd with the new Guitar Hero game and, to top it all off, I was given free beer by the last people I would expect to be handing out beer. … read more

Chromeo @ Red Butte Gardens 05.27 with ODESZA, Classixx
I wish we had more venues like the Red Butte Amphitheater in Salt Lake—partly because it’s beautiful but also because I’m a total homebody these days and love to be in bed by midnight. Red Butte satisfies both my lazy girl and socialite lifestyles in one outdoorsy package. … read more

Tom Kenny: The Voice of SpongeBob is No Square
There is one voice everyone knows, one laugh more distinguishable than that of any other animated character: SpongeBob Squarepants’. Paramount films and Nickelodeon released The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water on Feb. 6, 2015. The movie begins with a typical day in Bikini Bottom: utopic, with Krabby Patties crackling on the grill. … read more
Tame Impala @ The Depot 05.29 with Kuroma
I arrived at The Depot right as Kuroma, who apparently have members of MGMT’s touring band, were walking on stage and getting into their first song. These guys play a really great blend of psychedelic rock and sunny, beach-ready indie pop. After they finished their first song and I’d gotten settled on the main floor, their guitarist ran off stage and disappeared for about three minutes because he’d left his electric guitar on the service elevator on the side of the stage. … read more
Sarah Cracknell: Flying Kites in Sylvan Skies
Sarah Cracknell, the glamorous chanteuse of the iconic British indie band Saint Etienne, has always possessed one of pop’s most incandescent and shimmering voices, capable of eliciting euphoria against a synth-driven beat; heartbreak over a strummed guitar; melancholia and longing over the varied electronic and stripped down sounds the band—now in its astounding 25th year—has experimented with over the years; but, above all else, a simple charm. … read more
