Salt 9: Jillian Mayer
Jillian Mayer, a south Florida–based artist and Sundance Film Festival alum, is the ninth artist to be featured in the Utah Museum of Fine Art’s ongoing Salt series, which highlights contemporary work from emerging artists. Much of Jillian Mayer’s work investigates the fragmenting consequences of Internet usage through some of its most ubiquitous media—catchy pop songs, humorous YouTube videos, chat rooms and ephemeral linkages. … read more
Gay Marriage: The Bread and Circus Show
What has been called by some as “a true Christmas miracle,” gay and lesbians can now “officially” get married in the state of Utah. Yet, despite this supposed “fight won against evil,” to quote a Facebook friend, is there anyone else feeling a little conflicted by the events of this past week? … read more
Gheybin Comish and her Merman Obsession
Comish points out her overall inspiration—she says, “I like the primitive act of fighting. I am into Inuit things and figures. I like the plump, fleshy figures.” I could not help but feel privileged to see notes, doodles and observations that she takes with her everywhere, a private insight to her whimsical imagination. Comish’s talent runs deep, and when she casually mentions that she was a child-prodigy pianist, I don’t bat an eye and enviously mumble under my breath something to the effect of, “Oh, of course you were.” … read more

Beer Reviews
For the last decade, I’ve had to listen to people along the Wasatch Front (hell, across the fucking state!) piss and moan that they couldn’t get New Belgium beers in the Beehive State. It was almost as if there was some kind of JFK conspiracy surrounding the demand. … read more
Beautiful Godzilla: Reel To Steel
For those of you who have opted for rollers this winter, I’ve compiled a list of some entertainment options that don’t include frostbite or icy asphalt scrapes. We all know the classics—American Flyers, RAD, Breaking Away, Quicksilver, Pee-Wee’s Big Adventure—but I reached out to the trusty ole SaltCycle community for some of their favorites, which turned up an eclectic list of titles I’d missed. … read more

Princess Kennedy: Fame—Every Body Wants You
I have a motto: “If I don’t love me, nobody will.” Without trying to sound like a total douche, I have acquired a certain amount of notoriety. It doesn’t just come to you—you have to work for it. … read more
Mike Brown’s Monthly Dirt: House Party!
I’m not a big fan of house parties these days—I prefer my drinking on the idle comfort of a barstool or in the cozy confines of my couch. Maybe that’s why I usually end up acting like such a jackass when I go to a house party. … read more
Dear Dickheads – January 2014
Look. I love you guys/gals/guygals, but I take issue with the fact that you ran a profile on EA Games in November. EA is the largest video game publisher in the world. It’s a multi-billion dollar corporation. Frankly, there isn’t anything even close to “underground” about it. … read more
Skate Photo Feature: Garrison Conklin
Some people just have unbelievable power and finesse in their ollies. Garrison is one of those guys. I would have been happy with an ollie from curb cut to curb cut here, but Garrison saw the challenge to clear the whole driveway to the flat on the other side, and went for it. … read more
